The cloth
[replace] Every measurement and fabric weight on this page is my working assumption, not your confirmed spec. Replace any figure you cannot match against your own bags.
Canvas weight is quoted in ounces per square yard. Higher number, heavier cloth.
- 10 oz – lighter, breaks in fast, used for the small tote. Folds into a bag when not needed.
- 12 oz – the one we use most. Stands up when loaded and holds a printed line cleanly.
- 16 oz – stiff and structured, for bags that should keep their shape when empty. On request, from 50 pieces.
All of it is cotton rather than a cotton-poly blend, so it dyes evenly and takes water-based ink properly. Undyed natural cloth shows small vegetable flecks and slubs; that is the fabric, not a defect.
Washing
- Cold water, by hand or a gentle machine cycle in a laundry bag.
- Turn it inside out, and do not scrub a printed area.
- Line dry in the shade. A hot tumble dryer shrinks the body and cracks a screen print.
- Iron on the reverse to take the wrinkles out.
- Wash darks separately for the first few washes.
Spot-cleaning with a damp cloth is usually enough. The bag does not need a wash every trip.
